15 THINGS TO DO IN BALI

Over the past few years, Bali (and Indonesia in general) have become a real tourist hotspot! Last November, I spent about 3 weeks exploring this beautiful island and I completely fell in love with it. Bali has so much to offer:ย activities, beautifulย beaches, diving/snorkeling, small neighboring islands, etc. If you are planning to travel soon, I strongly suggest Bali as yourย destination. I’veย summed up the top 15 things to do while visiting Bali, and I hope it can help you organize and plan your trip to this beautiful amazing island!!ย

1. Tegallalang Rice Terraces

The image of the Tegallalang Rice Terraces is probably the most popular image you will find when researching “Bali” on the Internet. These rice terraces are absolutely stunning and definitely a must-see when visiting Bali. They are located in Ubud and are a very good spot for taking amazing pictures. There is no official fee to enter the terraces, but a few locals sit at corners and bridges with donation bags for the terraces. All and all, you might end up paying about 8$US (which is very reasonable). If you want gorgeous pictures, try to arrive early, as there are fewer people and the lighting outside is breathtaking.

2. Visit a Coffee Plantation

Everyone that visits Bali wants to go discover and explore rice fields.. but did you know that you can also visit coffee plantations? We visited Halas Arum Coffee Plantation. There, you can sample coffee and tea, meet luwaks, learn about the coffee-making process, take incredible pictures, and swing above the plantations.

3. Monkey Forest

No trip to Bali is complete without a visit to the Monkey Forest. My only advice would be: Don’t feed the monkeys.. and be careful because they get quite aggressive and tend to bite tourists.

4. Shop at Ubud Art Market

If you want to shop while in Bali, the Ubud Art Market is the best place to do so. In the morning, the market is more for locals and they sell fruit, vegetables, spices, and lots of other food. Around the end of the afternoon, the vendors turn the market into the lovely Ubud Art Market for tourists.

5. Visit the Nusa Islands

There are 3 Nusa Islands: Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan, and Nusa Penida. The famous Diamond Beach and T-Rex point are located on Nusa Penida. These islands are very accessible and easy to visit as they are only a short boat ride away from the main island of Bali.

6. Visit the Gili Islands

Other amazing islands to visit are the Gili Islands: Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air. These tiny islands are off the coast of Lombok and are known for diving, snorkeling, and partying.

7. Watch a Sunset in Uluwatu

Uluwatu has a higher elevation than the rest of Bali (which makes it the best place to watch sunsets). Our favorite spot is Sunset Point Uluwatu.

8. Eat Seafood in Jimbaran

Jimbaran is an old fisherman town by the beach. There are many restaurants and they even have an amazing seafood market. You can buy fresh seafood from the market, take it to any restaurant, and they will cook it for you.

9. Party at Old Man’s in Canggu

Canggu is the place to go if you want good food, good parties, and good vibes in general. Old Man’s is located in Canggu and is very famous for its parties and we loved spending our evenings there.

10. Spend a day at Finn’s Beach Club

Another great party place in Canggu is Finn’s Beach Club. This place is by the beach, has great food, a beautiful pool, and amazing music. It is on the more expensive side but it is totally worth it.

11. Have a Personalized Breakfast at The Loft

With restaurants in both Uluwatu and Canggu, The Loft is definitely the best place to go for breakfast (and for any other meal actually). They even make personalized smoothie bowls.. all you need to do is ask!

12. Visit Tanah Lot Temple

This temple is probably one of the most famous temples in all of Bali. Definitely worth the visit.

14. Go Surfing

Bali is definitely a paradise for surfers. Whether you are an expert and want to go surf the big waves of Padang Padang or you are a beginner and want to take on the small waves of Canggu, you will be pleased. Uluwatu was our favorite surf spot. My boyfriend spent hours surfing, and I spent hours watching him and all the other surfers on the beautiful blue water.

13. Hike Mount Batur

Are you a nature and hiking lover? If you are, you should totally go climb Mount Batur and watch the sunrise from up there. Many organized tours are available for this hike.

15. Go Chasing Waterfalls

Bali has so many beautiful waterfalls. Some are small and hidden away and others are bigger and more touristy. If you plan a trip to Bali, you have to go chasing waterfalls!

Bali is a truly beautiful island full of wonders of nature. It has become such a popular spot for tourists to visit (and I think these 15 points explain why). I truly think everyone should go visit and experience the culture and beauty of Indonesia and of Bali. There are hundreds of other things to do there (that I did not mention in that list) but, in my opinion, these ones are the best!! I hope you get to visit Bali someday and that you enjoy it as much as we did!

Hello Chloe! To be honest, Bali is not that big of an island. We were there for 3 week and we could’ve easily done all 15 things! I suggest about one month to really experience the culture and everything the island has to offer! ๐Ÿ™‚
